While I was at Comic Con two weeks ago, my friend Greg DeStefano introduced me to the artwork of Brandon Ragnar Johnson, and all of its Diesel powered glory.

“At the Academy” by Ragnar

I’m head over heels in love with his artwork.

 Brandon Ragnar Johnson is an illustrator who currently resides in Southern California and was educated at the Pasadena Art Center. According to his outdated blogger profile he is a guy who “makes pictures of stuff then goes fishing” 

He’s also worked in advertising and in the development department for studios such as MTV, Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network. In some hard-to-find interviews, he’s also stated that he likes his independence and does only a handful of gallery shows as well as toys.

A lot of his imagery seems to draw from the 1930s – 1960s. Right up my alley! From that WWII inspired Diesel-punk look to 1960′s Retro-futuristic Sci-fi, Ragnar’s art gets my inspiration going.

 I should not even have point out that the color scheme is one that repeats itself in my own wardrobe. I couldn’t justify the cost of getting his art books at comic con, mostly due to the fact that I’m between work at the moment.

“Big City” by Ragnar

I will be obtaining both of his books “Big City” and “Symptomatica” in the future. I decided this once I returned home from Comic Con and found his deviantart account, full of amazing images (as seen in this post).

Which print did I buy? I had a lot of trouble deciding to be honest. I wanted 4 of the 7 “At the Academy” prints that were available. After a short photo-text exchanged with my boyfriend I decided on this piece:
