Witch Hunt

by Yume Ninja-Sovereign | September 19th, 2012

Last week I was called in to perform my Civil Service in Los Angeles, that’s right, Jury Duty!

After attending, I decided to make this outfit video for you guys.

You can also check it out on my youtube channel: http://youtube.com/yumeninja

I have also posted this look to my Lookbook.nu account, so hype it if you like it, or if you think it’s a funny way in attempts to get out of Jury Duty. I’ve also posted this to my Chictopia.com account as well if you prefer that site.

Though  I did get gothed-out to avoid getting picked as a Juror (look crazy!), I was actually inspired after watching a few movies about Witches.

Since I’ve been on an epic 90′s movie kick, I watched ‘The Craft’, ‘Hocus Pocus’, and other fun films involving Witches. I also drew a bit of inspiration from the series ‘Witch Hunter Robin’, which had an amazing art style.

And lets not forget the greatest Witch of all, Angelica Houston. Whether you prefer the Morticia Addams look or her look from ‘The Witches’ (1990), she was my greatest inspiration for this outfit.

Maybe my obsession with Goth movies has something to do with Halloween being just around the corner. I’m not sure how big of a deal it is in other parts of the world, but as a kid, and probably as a female, it’s a pretty big deal here in America.

If you’re also a huge fan of Disney, you’ll know that the park is also now decked out in Halloweentown (Nightmare Before Christmas) theme. Though I’m much more a fan of Christmas myself, my boyfriend and I enjoy the juxtaposition due to his love of Halloween.

I only ended up waiting around for about 30 minutes of Jury Duty before they excused me, for obvious reasons.

On my way home I actually had about 5 people stop me in the street, telling me they “loved my look”. A lot of them were older women who were very sweet and wanted to talk to me about my style. I always enjoy talking to people from a different generation that might not understand my own.

The dress I’m wearing is absolutely brilliant. I got this dress a while ago from ebay. It’s a Lip Service dress from of their ‘Fashion Victim’ line.

I adore the screen print, and I love how comfortable this dress is. Paired with a hood or draped items of clothing, it totally went from casual Gypsy to Witch in an instant.

So what are all of your plans for Halloween? Any epic costumes?

And for fun, have any of you guys ever had to try to get out of jury duty? Did it work?
This was my first time in 12 years where I actually had to show up! Now I’ve officially completed my civil duty to the USA for 12 months!

I want to hear your stories!
